The Chennai based Dr. Agarwal''s Eye Hospital has opened its fourth branch at Trichy, Tamil Nadu, christened Dr. Agarwal Vasan Eye Hospital. The hospital is to be linked to the headquarters and will have all the sophistication that the other branches have currently except the latest state-of-the-art Zyoptix laser for sight without glasses or contact lenses. The hospital in Chennai only has this facility, which will be made available at all the centres shortly. The other branches are in Bangalore and Dubai.

The hospital also plans to open another state-of-the-art eye care centre at Jaipur. The same is slated to open before December this year.

Dr. Agarwal''s Eye Hospital is the pioneer in performing ''Phaconit'' surgery, which is the removal of cataract through a 0.09 mm incision. As against the conventional opening or cut to the size of 12 mm''s Phaconit surgery involves no injection, pain, stitches and pads and a foldable six mm inter ocular lens is introduced through the cut.

Recently, Dr. Amar Agarwal, Director of the hospital claimed he had identified a new refractive error, Aberrophia, which reveals aberrations in the ocular media resulting in loss of vision in the eye, According to Dr. Agarwal, Aberrophia was hitherto diagnosed as Amblyopia (lazy eye) and patients were given glass or contact lenses to correct the refractive error but used to be in vain. According to him, this refractive error can be treated using wavefront technology laser.

The laser using the wavefront technology is the Zyoptix laser machine, which is a highly advanced lasik laser providing customized treatment for refractive errors. The laser machine is a patented invention of Wavefront Technology, USA. The machine will help patients suffering from refractive errors leading to myopia, hypermetropia, presbyopia and astigmatism to have perfect vision and discard the spectacles or contact lenses that they currently use.
