UK-based Symogen Ltd has severed its ties with Symogen India which is a pioneer in conducting certificate courses in pharmacovigilance in India. Dr Pipasha Biswas, an eminent expert in the field and heading the courses, has resigned from the Indian company recently.

"I am henceforth no longer involved in any education/training programmes including the certificate course in pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology or in any of the business activities of Symogen India," she said in a statement. Dr Pipasha said her company would now start course in this field and in pharmaceutical medicine on its own in India and eminent professionals both nationally and internationally will be lecturing.

Dr Biswas runs her own company Symogen Ltd, established in 2004 under England and Wales Company's Act. Symogen Ltd deals with all aspects of Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology and provides end to end services in this field for all pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Her clients include Roche, Shire, Takeda, Genzyme, Solvay, ADAMAS Consulting, Cognizant etc.

Symogen initiated the first ever Certificate course in Pharmacovigilance & Pharmacoepidemiology from September 2007, the first of its kind in India. The first batch of students completed the course in December 2007 that was held in New Delhi. The second batch in Mumbai which started in March 2008 finished at the end of June 2008.
