FICCI, Maha Judicial Academy to host Judges Roundtable' 2010

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in association with Maharashtra State Judicial Academy will be organizing Judges Roundtable’ 2010 at Uttan, Bhayander (Maharashtra) near Mumbai, on July 24 and 25, 2010. The primary purpose of the Roundtable is to focus on issues and challenges, which the Judiciary is expected to address in resolving IP disputes in view of the changing scenario of technology and trade policies and development of the law on the subject.

The chief justice of Bombay High Court, justice Mohit Shah would be inaugurating the event which would also be attended by many sitting Senior Judges from Bombay and Delhi High Courts including justice D Y Chandrachud who will deliver the presidential address and several Judges from various districts of Maharashtra.

FICCI has been intensively involved in issues pertaining to the protection of Intellectual Property Rights. It has taken a lead role in various sensitization programmes on IP at the national level as well as capacity building and training in industry and enforcement agencies including police and customs besides sensitizing judiciary on quality and speedy adjudication of IP related matters. In furtherance of its efforts FICCI has been conducting IPR Adjudication Programmes with the Judiciary, the most recent of which has been the Judges’ Round Table on Intellectual Property Rights for Judicial Officers of Chennai on July 26 to 27, 2008. The programmes conducted earlier include the Roundtable at the National Judicial Academy at Bhopal in 2004, Judges’ Roundtable on IPR Adjudication for Eastern Region at Kolkata in 2005 and Karnataka High Court in 2007.
