The 'Pharmaceutical Expo-2002' organised by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industries (FICCI) in association with the 54th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress, has already grossed business totally valued over rupees 80 crore during the first two days of the 54th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) here. A sizeable foreign participation at the Expo clearly indicates that the world is looking towards Indian Pharmaceutical Industry and is also aware about the huge market potential here for their products.
The exhibition being organised on a 10,000 square meter area, adjoining to the main conference hall of the IPC going on in the Bharati Vidyapeeth Education Complex, in Dhankavadi area, has so far attracted more than 5,000 visitors, said Krishnan Kalra, additional secretary general, FICCI.
A total of 200 companies and product range of 1000 pharmaceutical equipments, from India and abroad are displayed at the exhibition, which was claimed to be the largest exhibition organised in recent years by FICCI. "We expect to do business around rupees 800 crore over the three days of exhibition," Kalra said.
Among the major items displayed and sold at the exhibition stalls are from the segments ofpackaging material, packaging and formulation plants, boiler plants, tablet manufacturing machinery and other major equipments.
Kalra added that FICCI, through this exhibition, has been able to generate major business from East and South-East Asian countries and also a few African countries. Over 500 delegates from Gulf countries, Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, Japan, Taiwanand Tanzania, have already visited the exhibition.
The exhibition has showcased the latest technologies available in Pharmaceutical Industry. It also provides a platform for companies from machinery, instrumentation, laboratory equipment, raw materials, process plant, bulk drugs for transacting business.
The Pharmaceutical Industry in India has been growing at the rate of 15% over the past five years.To sustain this growths in the face of competition both domestic and international, its essential for the industry to keep upgrading their technology, get raw material at competitive rates and improve over all productivity.To this end, they do need to visit the exhibition and source their requirements appropriately, Kalra added.
Leading MNCs like Messung (Mitsubishi), Shimadzu, Millipore, Mettler, Hosokawa Alpine, CVC Technologies, E-Merck, K-Tron, Aimil Ltd etc are the major foreign companies participating at the event.Among Indian majors, Associated Capsules Group, Cadmach, Bectochem, Precision Gears, Pharmalab, Fabtech, Ambica Machine tools, Flow Control Industries, Medica Instruments Mfg. Co., Newtronic Equipment Company, Parle Tools International, Pharmamachine, Rapid Pack Engineering, Sartorious, Schenectady-Beck India Ltd., Siskin, Thermax, Thermolab, Toshniwal, Umang Pharmatech, Pall Pharma Lab, Fabtech, Karnavati Engineering etc received immense responses at the exhibition.
