Karnataka DC continues to issue CoPP, hearing of writ petition on Dec 11
Karnataka drugs control department continues to issue the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (CoPP). The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) official has also been carrying out the joint inspections. The hearing for the CoPP writ petition filed by the Karnataka Drugs and Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association is on December 11.
“The state licensing authority under no circumstances has stopped issuing CoPP. There has been no resistance or confusion about the issue of CoPP certification for us. We have been accepting every request from the pharma exporters here to issue the certification after carrying out the necessary audits,” Dr BR Jagashetty Karnataka Drugs controller told Pharmabiz.
Annually, around 3,000 certificates are issued. Joint inspections are carried out and speedy issue of the order is made, he added.
The state has around 230 pharma units. The annual turnover from the pharma sector is valued at Rs 3,500 crore, of which exports constitute Rs 1,750 crore. The leading exporters are Biocon, Bal Pharma, RL Fine Chem. Micro Labs, Medriech Sterilabs, Strides Arcolabs, Group Pharma, Kemwell, Lake Chem, Leonid Chemicals to name a few.
