New life sciences training & research centre set up in Bhubaneswar

The Bhubaneswar-based Royal School of Management and Technology (RSMT) and Helix Genomics Private Limited (HGPL), Hyderabad have jointly organized a one-day sate level workshop on Biological Operating System (BOS) at Bhubaneswar on November 26.

During the workshop, RSMT has launched Royal Life-sciences Training and Research Centre (RLTRC), a division specializing in Bioinformatics Training and Research, supported by HGPL.

Speaking on the occasion, Narayana Patro, principal director, RSMT, said," industry relationship and collaboration with academic institutes will provide practical exposure and improve the skill set of the students when they join the industry and RSMT is committed towards development of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in the State of Orissa."

Mohan RK Nimmagadda, CEO of HGPL, said, RLTRC will be developed jointly by HGPL and RSMT as Centre of Excellence in BOS and Computational Biology Training and Research.

During the workshop, HGPL and RSMT have also signed an MOU which includes HGPL providing the Software License Agreement for the academic use of Biological Operating System (BOS) at RSMT by the students, faculty and researchers. Commenting on the license agreement, Mohan RK Nimmagadda, CEO, HGPL said it would help the State of Orissa to address the growing need of quality training & research services in the Bio- Technology and Bio-Informatics sector.

The workshop focused on the present status of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, industry needs and emerging areas with employment opportunities for students. The students were educated on the skill set required to become good computational biologist.
