Newly formed Suven Nishtaa to offer wide range of R&D services to pharma cos

Suven Nishtaa Pharma Pvt Ltd, a newly formed subsidiary of Hyderabad-based Suven Life Sciences, is initiating its operations to offer a range of research and development (R&D) services from formulation development to clinical supplies manufacturing and packaging.

The company, which was formed recently, has established its state-of-the-art dedicated facility in the outskirts of Hyderabad last month. The 1.1 lakh sq ft built-in area in a five acre premises will offer services in product development, analytical and regulatory management, development of New Chemical Entities (NCEs) and New Drug Delivery Systems (NDDSs), clinical supplies manufacturing and packaging.

"We have assessed the market situation in India and probably, this is the first company to offer all these five business verticals under one roof in the country. We can handle almost 50 ANDAs (Abbreviated New Drug Applications) in our product development facility at a time," said B V Srinivasa Rao, head of business coordination, Suven Nishtaa Pharma Pvt Ltd. However, he refused to divulge the details of investment for the new facility.

While the contract services industry in India is expected to soar with a large number of products coming off-patent globally in the coming three to four years. The company is expected to cash in on this segment along with providing services to the innovator companies in product development. Focusing on the risk-free model, the company is planning to full fill the customer requirements with quality services and will hand over the project back to the customer, he added.

"We have identified a huge opportunities for the company in India. In our feasibility studies, we have analysed the operations of some of the global players who are offering such wide spectrums of services under a roof and the largest company have a potential of USD 3 billion. But we cannot comment on the potential of our business in India as we are on initial stage of operation," informed Rao.

Suven Nishtaa is currently in talks with various pharmaceutical firms to initiate its operations and has started initial works for some of the projects tentatively though talks are yet to be finalised. The facility comprises of six formulation development labs, two process development labs, eight technology development labs for product development and three instrumentation labs for analytical services.

Further, a pilot plant for solid dosages including tablets, capsules, pellets, powders and granules along with warehouse for raw material, packing material, printed packing material, secondary packing material and finished product storage are also facilitated.

With the establishment of this new subsidiary, Suven Life Sciences which has been offering a wide range of contract services from new drug development to clinical trials services will have one more edge to win the fast growing outsourcing market, averred Rao.
