NPPA revises price of chlorpropamide, vitamin C

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised price of chlorpropamide and vitamin C to be effective within 15 days from July 27, 2007.

The maximum retail price of chlorpropamide has been increased to Rs 328 per kg from Rs 306 per kg, fixed on August 1995. The price of vitamin C (Plain) has been reduced to Rs 366 per kg from Rs 386 and the price of coated form of vitamin C has been reduced from Rs 372 per kg to Rs 353 per kg. Similarly, the sodium ascrobate form of the bulk drug was cut from Rs 402 per kg, to Rs 381 per kg.

The last price control covering vitamin C (plain), vitamin C (coated) and sodium ascorbate was on March 2007. The prices are fixed excluding the excise duty and local taxes.

NPPA, in its circular dated July 27,2007 vide S O No 1279(E) for chlorpropamide, and S O No 1280(E) for vitamin C - pain, coated and sodium ascorbate, said that this revised prices shall be made effective within 15 days from the date of the order as required under sub paragraph (1) of paragraph 14 of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 1995.
