Osmania University to conduct national symposium on bioresources, from 19-21 Nov.

Department of zoology, Osmania University, Hyderabad is organizing a national symposium on ‘ Bioresources, Biotechnology and Bioenterprise’ in its campus in the city from 19th – 21st of November, in support with Indian Society of Life Sciences, Kanpur. NABARD and Central Silk Board are also extending their support for the programme. The symposium is to provide a suitable venue for interaction of researchers working in the areas of biotechnology, genetic engineering, ecology, biochemistry, physiology, plant and animal biology, NGOs, biotech companies, policy makers and banks.

Under bioresources and biodiversity, the topics for discussion will be- biodiversity of microbes and fungi, invertebrates and vertebrates; animal and plant systematics- morphology and anatomy; biodiversity assessment and automated technologies; natural resource management and conservation evaluation, environmental monitoring and impact assessment; exploration for new biological resources; ecological and evolutionary studies on fauna and flora; physiological and biochemical studies on stress, nutrition and toxicology of animals and plants; bioactive molecules from marine, freshwater and terrestrial organisms; reproductive biodiversity and edocrine regulation.

Topics on biotechnology will include- fermentation biotechnology and novel biomolecules; environmental biotechnology and bioremediation; Transgenic animals-fishery resources, cattle, laboratory animal models, genetic status of animal stocks; transgenic plants and productivity; molecular diagnostics and healthcare- biosensors and molecular signals; biotechnological potential of marine microorganisms.

Various areas relating to bioenterprise will be touched, which include- aquaculture and aqua technologies; apiculture and bee keeping technologies; sericulture and seribiotechnology; vermiculture, vermicomposting and vermitechnologies; biofertilisers and biopesticides; integrated pest management as an enterprise for biology graduates; plant tissue culture-ornamental and horticultural plants, medicinal plants, mushroom culture; animal tissue culture- as an enterprise for biology graduates in laboratory and industry; reproductive technologies and livestock improvement.
