The B V Patel Pharmaceutical Education & Research Development (PERD) Centre, Ahmedabad, is conducting laboratory training course on molecular biology for the professionals in biotech research from July 6 to 10, 2009 in the institution.

The course is a part of the centre's continuing education programmes for professional advancement in various aspects of pharmaceutical industry. The five-day course, which would give the professionals an update about the methods in molecular biology research, will include lectures, supplemented with individual hands-on experience in a variety of molecular biology techniques.

The lectures and discussions will cover the basic principles behind molecular biology techniques, their applications, related techniques, and current developments in the field.

Further, a hands-on training will be delivered in the course in various molecular biology techniques including genomic DNA extraction, plasmid isolation, restriction digestion, ligation, transformation, DNA amplification by PCR, protein gel separation and immuno-blotting methods, informs PERD Centre announcement.

Molecular biology techniques, which provide a foundation for work in the growing fields of genomics, cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, diagnostics and therapeutics, are being used extensively in modern day drug discovery, development and diagnostics.

"The objective of this workshop is to familiarize participants with concepts pertaining to basic molecular biology principles and the techniques applied in various contemporary areas of research," added the institution.

The workshop is intended for personnel with relevant scientific background seeking basic and advance level molecular biology training. The course designed to benefit technicians involved in molecular biology or biotechnological research, supervision or manufacture and other technical operations along with academicians or researchers.
