Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute partners with Dell to improve patient healthcare
Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre has deployed Dell’s technology solutions to enhance the delivery of a range of healthcare outcomes. The institute recently deployed a number of healthcare technology initiatives and invested in a highly scalable storage management system to meet the capacity demands of data-intensive medical images and records.
Due to the unpredictable nature of cancer progression, patient records need to remain readily accessible to consultants, surgeons and hospital staff. Patient visits to the hospital could span from days to years which meant that the data containing patient medical records and images needed to remain highly available rather than becoming less accessible within archival solutions such as tape libraries.
The institute decided to opt for Storage and Datacenter virtualization to meet their need. Keeping this in mind, Dell Compellent storage solution and Dell PowerEdge servers were deployed to deliver a stable, scalable platform for the hospital information system, PACS and electronic medical records.
With the help of these solutions the institute was able to meet the needs of the patient at the forefront through technology-enabled healthcare. It ensured that medical images and records were instantly available for patient visits. Treatment responsiveness increased through the ability to respond to urgent requirements. It also provided the institute the ability to double their storage capacity which provided a compelling price-performance ratio.
Additionally, with the kind of solutions deployed the institute has a storage solution that can manage their growing data demands for the next seven years. The solution has also given the Institute the ability to make an accurate roadmap of future IT needs. With plans to implement virtual desktops throughout the institute to deliver data security, it ensures that consultants and surgeons can access medical information from anywhere in the facility. It also provides assurance and comfort to patients to know that the latest technology is being used for their treatment and care.
“Having medical images and patient records accessible online reassures our patients because their surgeon is aware of all their history before making an informed decision. With our Dell Compellent storage management system we have eliminated the potential for image deterioration, and patient records can be quickly accessed to ensure treatment begins immediately,” said - J P Dwivedi, CIO, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre.
“We have taken into consideration not only the Institute’s current needs but the future needs as well. The Institute has the capacity to increase their storage as per need and this takes care of their current and future patient records. Our solutions ensure that they play a vital role in patient healthcare and we are happy to have made that difference” – Pankaj Gupta, Country Manager, Solutions Marketing, Dell India.
