SRL Ranbaxy is planning to expand its network of pathological centres by adding five more laboratories in the next two years. The company is planning two laboratories in Delhi, and one each in Amritsar, Hyderabad and Kolkata, according to Sumedha Sahani, Director, Operations and Clinical Trials.

He told the press in Hyderabad that the laboratories would offer tests ranging from serology to infectious diseases testing, histopathology and biochemistry. The test menu would be similar to those offered at the other SRL labs and include tests that were specifically required in a region. SRL was also planning to have tie-ups with hospitals to emerge as a premier pathological testing group, he said.

It may be recalled that Fortis Healthcare, a subsidiary of Ranbaxy group, has plans to set up hospitals at different locations in the country with a total investment of Rs 1,000 crore. The first phase of the project will be completed in four years. The company is also planning to diversify into the management of hospitals soon. Hyderabad is one of the centres where the group wants to set up its presence in a big way.
