Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation will now provide 24/7 services for heart attacks to save the patients during the golden hour after the attack. The hospital is also the only facility to use the new special clot buster medicine called Tirofiban (Aggramed). It has successfully used the drug in nearly 100 patients in the last three months with great success. Not only many lives have been saved but also the cost has been greatly reduced since this new drug is 10 times less expensive, Dr. B.G. Muralidhara, Chairman and Chief of Cardiology of Trinity Hospital & Heart Foundation said at a press conclave.
Heart attacks are caused when the cholesterol plaque ruptures and causes a blood clot. The ideal treatment is to open the artery by Angioplasty and insert a mesh wall tube called Stent using a special super clot buster drug to re-establish the blood flow. The procedure is known as facilitated reperfusion, he informed.
Sometimes during the 'facilitated reperfusion', doctors administer the clot buster drug immediately after a heart attack in the ambulance or when the patient reaches the hospital and then they perform angioplasty inserting the stent.
It is estimated that by 2025, India will have the highest number of diabetics and heart attacks in the world. All these problems are peculiar to Indians because of a syndrome called Syndrome-X, which is genetically determined, Metabolic Syndrome.
Trinity Hospital and Heart Foundation was established in 2001 to provide comprehensive Cardiac Care. The hospital has 3 major operation theaters and a digital cardiac Cath lab. In the last 1000 days, the hospital has been able to cater to about 25,000 out patients and 7,000 in-patients. It has performed 5,000 Coronary Angiograms, 1000 Angioplasties and 600 Coronary Bypass Surgeries. It has also adopted minimally invasive endo vascular procedures like Angioplasty, Stenting, Roational Atherectomy, Cutting balloon Angiolplasty, Valvulosplasty, Stent Grafting, Device closure of ASD, PDA & VSD and Embolisation procedures.
The Government of Karnataka has recognized the hospital under the "State government health services scheme" for providing cardiac services for the state government staff and their dependants and the "Arogya Bhagya Scheme" open for the Police personnel and their families. It is also recognized by the Government of India under the CGHS Scheme and by various corporate companies for extending health services.
