The Eye Research Foundation (TERF) at Vijaya Hospital, Vadapalani, Chennai, has installed an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT3) machine, one of the few such facilities in the country. The facility was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. K. Anandakannan, President, Tamil Nadu Ophthalmic Association and Former Vice Chancellor, The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University. Costing over Rs.30 lakh, the facility has been donated by R.P. Krishnammachari, Managing Director of Textan Chemicals (P) Ltd and N.K. Moorthy of Deccan Overseas Export (P) Ltd, Chennai.

OCT3 is a diagnostic imaging device that provides direct cross sectional image of the retina for objective measurement and subjective clinical evaluation in the detection of glaucoma and retinal diseases. The OCT3 images and analyzes the retinal nerve fiber layer and the optic disc using the latest technology for high resolution scans. OCT3 provides complete cross sectional view of the retinal structure and demonstrates at almost cellular level, the actual histology. The result is the data that enhances the ability to diagnose and manage a patient's glaucoma or retinal disease.

The Eye Research Foundation located at Vijaya Hospital is a registered society established in 1983 with Dr. Babu Rajendran as Medical Director and Vice President. The Foundation serves as a tertiary care facility to manage completed cases involving the eye. It is also committed to research and providing free service to the needy.
