Lab instrumentation major, Waters, has installed its second Xevo TQ MS system at MicroConstants Inc., a bio-analytical and pharmacokinetic-specialty Contract Research Organization (CRO) in San Diego, California.
The Xevo TQ MS system along with a Waters Acquity UPLC system has helped the company to increase the bio-analytical services capacity. With these new systems, bio-analytical methods can be carried out easily. In many cases, for MicroConstants lower limits of detection would be achievable when the research was properly optimized on the Waters system.
The addition of the new mass spectrometer increases the equipment count at its San Diego laboratory to 16 LC/MS/MS systems.
“With two identical Xevo LC/MS/MS systems, we have doubled our capacity for the high-sensitivity methods currently validated on our first Xevo which was installed last fall,” says David F. Beyerlein, vice president of global operations at MicroConstants.
“Now the installation of a second system also allows us to carry out sample analysis in an uninterrupted manner during our scheduled quarterly preventative maintenance,” he added.
The expansion of MicroConstants’ bio-analytical capacity also included the transition of a portion of the Formulation Analysis Department to the existing Bio-analytical Chemistry Team. The move was in response to several clients successfully making progress in the drug development programs from IND-enabling toxicology studies to the clinical phase.
Consequently, the capacity for the analysis of test articles from GLP toxicology studies have been temporarily reduced to match project needs. The transition did not have any affect on the company’s growing Drug Metabolism or Immunoassay departments which will continue to expand, along with the bio-analytical services that is based on the growing demands in the market.
MicroConstants has supported several clients in California by providing contract research services to help advance their drug development programs. Currently efforts are on to actively pursue for new clients in this territory. This expansion of MicroConstants’ instrumentation and business development team will further the company’s objective to be a recognized leader in bio-analytical and pharmacokinetic analysis, said the company release.
