Care Hospitals to invest Rs.350 cr for expansion, to increase bed capacity to 2500 in 2-year

Care Hospitals, Hyderabad-headquartered fast growing hospital chain, is planning to invest Rs.350 crore in the next two years for the expansion of its existing 12 hospitals.


The group is in the process of raising funds required for the expansion through debt and equities and raising funds through equities will be completed in a month. It will increase the bed capacity from the present over 1600 beds to 2500 beds in two years. Care Hospitals, which has two units in Visakhapatnam, will open a third unit with a bed capacity of 300 beds. It will increase its bed capacity in Bhubaneswar from the present 100 beds to 300 beds by opening a second unit. It has bed capacity of 240 beds in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, with two units, and is planning to add 150 beds there. It will also renovate and upgrade its existing facilities at Banjara Hills and Nampally in Hyderabad into centres of excellence. It has also plans to set up joint venture hospitals in Vijayawada and New Delhi. However, details of the projects are yet to be finalised.


“Key concept of our expansion strategy is to add more capacity to the existing facilities. Care Hospitals is planning to upgrade some of the hospitals into centres of excellence. We are also looking for opportunities in new areas for expansion,” Dr N Krishna Reddy, director and CEO, Care Hospitals, told Pharmabiz.


Care Hospitals is also planning to upgrade the 65-bed facility teaching hospital in Pune, which is a joint venture with Symbiosis University, Pune and Care Hospitals is the operating partner, into centre of excellence with a bed capacity of 400 beds initially and later 500 more beds.


Dr Reddy added that the group has 26 specialities. However, dominant focus is on super specialities such as cardiology and neurology, etc and general specialities are playing supporting role. Super specialities contribute 80 per cent of the hospitals’ revenue.


Care Hospitals, with one lakh patient admissions per annum, has so far conducted over 1000 cardiac surgeries. The group’s all the facilities are under the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation process and is expected to receive the accreditation before the end of the current financial year. Laboratories of the group’s Nampally and Banjara Hills facilities are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NBL).


It is also planning to double the current manpower strength of 7000 employees in two years.
