With a view to reduce ambiguity and bring in better governance in the healthcare system, experts from across the country wants the government to dissolve multiple governing bodies like PCI, MCI, NCI etc and bring them under one entity. This demand comes in the wake of complications arising out of bureaucratic hurdles due to the existence of multiple governing bodies, which is further dithering the scope of providing better healthcare services throughout the country.

The government is understood to be deliberating with the healthcare experts from across the spectrum to get a consensus on the possibility of exploring the same. Sources inform that there is a strong urge within the healthcare industry to see a chance that will come only through dissolving  the current multi layered hierarchical system with a more leaner overarching single regulatory body.

“The government seems to be pro towards any good ideas that is in the lines of maximum governance but minimum government. We strongly feel that having a single regulatory body is one of the best ways to remove the bottlenecks that complicate developmental agenda. Thus we strongly feel that the best way to ensure speedy and effective services in the healthcare system is by convert the existing multiple regulatory bodies into a multi-stakeholder body. This will not only lead to effective regulatory practices but will also bring in professionalism and time bound service culture. This will also simplify the whole governing process by bring in accountability and transparency in the system, and will also be more easily accessible,” Rajendra Pratap Gupta who was in-charge of preparing the BJP Election Manifesto along with committees chairman Murli Manohar Joshi, stressed.

Highly placed source inform that today the healthcare system of the country is literally run by the whims and fancies of the Medical Council of India (MCI), a statutory body with the responsibility of establishing and maintaining high standards of medical education; the Indian Nursing Council (NCI), a national regulatory body for nurses and nurse education in India which sets standards of training for nurses, midwives, health visitors, and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) pharmacy educationist regulatory body.
