NIPER with RSC-London to hold 3 day National workshop in Hyderabad

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Hyderabad in association with Royal Society of Chemistry London (RSC-London) is planning to organise a 3 day national workshop from June 26 to 28.

The main aim of this workshop is to provide training and advanced knowledge to the teaching faculty of pharmacy and chemistry courses in the country. The workshop is expected to deliberate on modern methods in pharmaceutical chemistry and analysis.

As there is a lot of research going on in the fields of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical technology, updating advanced developments in these sectors is very crucial for teaching fraternity. It is in view of this, the NIPER Hyderabad and RSC-London are planning this workshop.

“Every year there are major advancements taking place in the pharmaceutical sciences and the syllabus needs to change to equip the students with the latest developments. The programme is expected to enhance the teaching and practical skills of the faculty working in pharmaceutical and chemical sciences,” informed Dr M V Narendra Kumar Talluri, workshop coordinator.

The faculty in large number of private and government pharmacy colleges in the country are not adequately trained. For them the national workshop is an apt platform where they can not only update the advances in teaching methodology, but can also improve their efficiency in delivering quality education to the students.

The proposed three day programme is designed to focus on two important subjects. One is Medicinal pharmaceutical chemistry and the second is pharmaceutical analysis. Topics like ‘Rediscovering natural products as source of drugs, Why chiral drugs are important, Combinatorial chemistry in pharma industry, Separation techniques, Basic techniques in laboratory practice, Interpretation of spectral analysis (IR, NMR & Mass), Advances in HPLC/UPLC applications in pharmaceutical industry, Application of mass spectrometry in pharmaceutical analysis and recent advances in analytical methodologies for impurity profiling of drugs, Analysis of pharmaceuticals on HPLC/UPLC and analysis of pharmaceuticals on gas chromatography–FID detection, are some of the topics that expected to be discussed during 3 day workshop.

All teaching faculty working in pharmaceutical and chemical sciences from across the country are eligible to take part in this national work shop. Interested members can register for the programme earliest by 20th June 2014.
