Swissnex India is now working to connect Switzerland-based med-tech and healthcare companies to propel transfer of technology and collaborations with start-ups in the country. The move according to Swissnex India would spur the much-needed innovation driven growth.

Coming under the umbrella of Consulate General of Switzerland, Swissnex India is now enabling easy access to markets, provide the supportive administrative and regulatory framework for companies in the country.

“Now companies in Switzerland are known for micro-nanotechnologies and precision engineering. We are now extending the required  assistance for companies here to help market entry, product validation and access to innovation,” Dr. Swetha Suresh, manager, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Swissnex India told Pharmabiz.

At the recently concluded  Swissnex India medtech and healthcare start-up tour covering Bengaluru and Delhi, over 11 key stakeholders visited and interacted with leading hospitals, research institutions, life-sciences companies, start-ups and enablers. The key objective was to create a network for potential collaborations.

“Pitches have taken place and we are hopeful that much of these would be converted into viable business contracts. Swiss industry encompasses the entire spectrum from research to manufacturing technologies. In order to take advantage of the latest advances in precision engineering, Indian companies can partner with either their industry or academic institutions,” she added.

Amongst the start-ups for the business pitch were Synple Chem, Ad Mirabilis, De Meliora, Sleepiz, YHLTH and Health that networked with Indian companies like Turtle Shell Technologies engaged in non-wearable and cost effective heart, breathe and sleep monitors for personal and clinical use and Sensivision Health Technologies for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy in neonates among others.

Moreover on the global index, Switzerland is ranked at number 1 for the last 5 years and this proves the country’s strengths in innovation. Now through Swissnex India, companies here can access technologies of Swiss majors to develop high quality and affordable products. This would be a win-win situation for Indian start-ups too. Therefore, we see a positive take-off post the interactions between India and Swiss companies, said Dr. Suresh.

India has its inherent strengths in qualified personnel not just in life sciences but also information technology. The combination of Swiss capability with India’s competence would be the ideal fit for the future. It would pave the way for excellence. Our country has a big advantage to be recognised as a dependabale outsourcing partner. Therefore engaging in co-development and marketing would help companies from Switzerland to identify areas of strengths to facilitate future growth avenues for Indian start-ups and small-medium enterprises, she noted.

With the Union government focus on programmes such as Make in India, Skilling India and Start-up India, we are looking to maximise the opportunities to encourage India and Swiss companies partner and devise effective strategies to foster knowledge driven growth. It would also open up new employment opportunities, create a sustainable eco-system for start-ups and SMEs to generate revenues amongst others, stated the Swissnex India Entrepreneurship & Innovation manager.
